Jamaican Me Crazy (Honeymoon Recap)

The only thing making me crazy right now, is NOT being in Jamaica on our honeymoon! This time last week, we were in Jamaica–sleeping late, ordering room service, and getting drinks delivered to us on the beach. I wrote this post while in Jamaica (my first international blog entry), but decided to dish a little about what we did and share pictures to go along with it for your Wednesday reading!

If you followed along on Instagram, you may have seen a few of these pictures already. But, I’ve sprinkled in a few that we had taken of us by the resort photographers throughout the week.

Jamaica Honeymoon

Ok. Now for the good stuff. We stayed at Sandals Negril (the couples only resort) in a Honeymoon Suite that came with a butler.

TIP #1: If you go to a Sandals (any Sandals resort) and DO NOT get a butler, you are doing your vacation wrong. It was so worth the little bit of extra money and it made our stay so much more luxurious! Room service on the beach, the guarantee of beach chairs every morning, premium reservations at select restaurants throughout the resort are just SOME of the perks of having a butler.

Sandals Negril

We arrived Monday afternoon, and after a truly heinous ride from the airport (they are crazy drivers and drive on the opposite side of the road). Josh and I took a three hour nap to kick off our stay in Jamaica. #winning The first of many naps of the week, might I add.

TIP #2: You’re on your honeymoon, RELAX MON. Put on your bathing suit and take a nap under the palm trees. Seriously though, typically when Josh and I travel we GO GO GO nonstop. This time, it was nice to take naps in the middle of the day and just relax.

Back to the whole butler thing: they obviously knew we were on our honeymoon–we literally told everyone we ran into. After taking a luxurious nap on the beach one afternoon, we decided to head back up to the room to get freshened up for dinner and come back to flowers all over the bed and a bubble bath drawn for us! (Not to mention, we had two tubs–one outside on our balcony and one inside). The bubble bath was OUTSIDE. Can we go on a honeymoon everyday?

All Sandals resorts are all inclusive–and man does it make a difference. It can seem like a lot of money all upfront, but once you get there, all alcohol, food, water activities, and more were included! We took full advantage of the food and drinks of course, but I also achieved my goal of #mermaidstatus and went snorkeling. Once I got the hang of breathing through a tube, I was singing Part of Your World and pretending the sea creatures were my BFFs. Ariel and I are basically one in the same now. (Hello, mermaid hair!)

Snorkeling in Jamaica

Sandals All Inclusive

We tried sailing, water bikes, and paddle boarding which were all included as well! Not included were things like the spa (which duh we still did), SNUBA diving which is like a cross between snorkeling and SCUBA diving minus the giant tanks (we did that too and it was AWESOME!).

TIP #3: Prioritize which “not included” activities you want to do. It costs extra so it’s good to make sure you can A. afford it and B. that it’s really worth it.

We didn’t do anything “off resort”  but I don’t feel like we missed out. The resort has 7+ restaurants and loads of activities already included. SNUBA was not included (so worth it), but we didn’t have to leave the resort (other than to go in open waters) to do it! It felt like a mini excursion and again #mermaidstatus

Jamaican Honeymoon

Another must do that everyone should have on their list–candle light dinner. I’d had friends go to Sandals resorts for their honeymoons and they raved about the candle light dinners–for us, it wasn’t in the budget (or so I thought). Plot twist: Josh actually ended up surprising me with the dinner for my wedding present! Considering I wouldn’t shut up about wanting to do it, it was a smart move. But y’all. The dinner itself. Impeccable. Amazing. SO WORTH IT. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was the most romantic.

Tip #4: Take a day after the wedding to recoup. For us, that meant not leaving for Jamaica straight away. We took Saturday night and all day Sunday to rest up and then flew out Monday. Literally our best idea. We did the same on the way back–came back Saturday so we could have Sunday to recoup before going back to work. I didn’t realize how exhausting traveling was until we got home Saturday night–man was I grateful that we didn’t have to go to work the next day!

Our honeymoon was the perfect getaway at the most perfect time. After wedding planning for six months, it’s exactly what we needed.

Tip #5: Buy a sexy bathing suit to take with you! I knew I wanted to bring something that was out of the norm for me and this black plunge one piece was just the thing. I got so many compliments and Josh loved it too!  Shop my favorites below:

I could sit here and go on and on and on about our honeymoon because it was literally that good. I have nothing but great things to say about Sandals–the service is out of this world. We are already planning our next trip and can’t wait to go back to any of the Sandals resorts!

  • Looks like the trip of the lifetime! I agree–wish we had at least taken a day to recoup on the end of our trip, if not one day before AND after. Great tip!

  • Haha! I got married in October and we left at 6:00 a.m. the day after our wedding. Looking back we probably should have waited a day. That wedding hair didn’t look quite as cute the second day at the airport. Looks like y’all had an amazing trip! Congratulations to you both!

Congrats on your wedding and honeymoon! I totally agree with taking a relaxing, tropical honeymoon because you can just chill. No more hustle and bustle. And we took a week off before our wedding. It sucked going back to work but I really didn’t want to go the day after the wedding.
